Description:

Reporting directly to the Controller, the Accounting Manager in Calgary will be responsible for computing, classifying, recording and verifying of the numerical data for use in maintaining accounting records.  This includes the monthly landlord reporting, balance sheet accounts, variance analysis reports, financial month end packages, month end closes, and bank reconciliations on a monthly basis, as well as working with the Controller and operations personnel to handle the day to day bookkeeping. This position will also be responsible for supervising the accounting team.   Must be capable of performing duties with limited supervision, meeting deadlines.

Monitor and analyses accounting data and produce landlord reports

  • Assist and review w/various complex reporting and/or accounting requirements
  • Being responsible for the landlord statements and assist the landlord accountants with completing their lot reports.
  • Ensure landlord reporting and internal deadlines are met
  • Ensure accounting adherence to the GAAP, and the company accounting policies and procedures
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate approvals, coding, management reports, lot set up, lot closures, and lot amendments
  • Enable to design and provide customized LL report according to the operation request
  • Authorize and ensure that the monthly landlord reports are completed as requested

Work with Controller to meet month end close deadlines and review

  • Assist with month end close review, including lot review, income statement and balance sheet review
  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly and YTD variance analysis reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Review balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy before GL close
  • Reconcile various balance sheet accounts for month end packages
  • Review month end packages before submission to Corporate to ensure accuracy

Work with Accounting staff to ensure tasks completed in a timely manner and deadlines are met

  • Day to day supervision of accounting staff
  • Help prioritize workloads during busy periods
  • Working with accounting staff to ensure understanding of tasks required
  • Ensure all tasks are completed by the deadlines, daily, monthly and annually
  • Performance reviews and goal setting tasks

Work with Operations Staff on Accounting related issues

  • Landlord inquiries, concerns and/or changes
  • Assist with the review and/or preparation of the reporting or reconciliations

Prepare and liaise with various Landlord contacts for specialized financial analysis reporting requirements.

  • Monthly and quarterly financial statement preparation
  • Monthly communications, including email statements

Ensure the reconciliations of clearing and bank accounts

  • Assist the Landlord Accountants with the daily banking requirements
  • Assist in the completion of the daily bank reconciliation, close related reporting in a timely manner according to established deadlines.
  • Supports the budget and the forecasting activities
  • Investigate discrepancies and coordinate resolution between HSBC and our accounting records

Audit

  • Work with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely year end audit
  • Provide the supporting documents for the lot revenue audit
  • Provide additional supporting documents for income statement and balance sheet audits

Salary: $55k-60k per year

Advanced Excel skills are considered an asset
