Job Description

Position Overview

The HR Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the Portland Human Resources department, including high volume front line staffing, employee relations, and specific projects as assigned by the Portland HR team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the recruitment process including job postings, conducting phone screens and interviews, job fairs, and conducting background and reference checks
  • Hiring salary and hourly employees
  • Producing reports on HR related matters including attrition, recruitment, employee engagement, and monthly labor reports and identifying variances
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge to ensure organizational compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements and providing HR advice to management and hourly employees
  • Establishing recruiting requirements by studying organization plans and objectives; meeting with managers to discuss needs.
  • Building applicant sources by researching and contacting community services, colleges, employment agencies, recruiters, media, and internet sites; providing organization information, opportunities, and benefits; making presentations; maintaining rapport.
  • Determining applicant requirements by studying job description and job qualifications
  • Accomplishing human resources and organization mission by completing related results as needed
  • Evaluating applicants by discussing job requirements and applicant qualifications with managers; interviewing applicants on consistent set of qualifications
  • Coordinating new hire orientation and submitting new hire and payroll paperwork
  • Managing the off-boarding process and providing advice and documentation necessary when terminating employees
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Associate's Degree (2 yr), preferably in HR-related Field
  • Or Combination of Education and Experience

Professional/Related Experience

  • 1-2 Years HR Experience
  • 3+ Years Recruiting Entry Level and Salary Positions

Skills Required

  • Knowledge of HR standards, laws, and best practices
  • MS Office, emphasis on Excel and Word
  • Analyze and articulate data and metrics
  • Comfortable speaking with and building relationships with others
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Time management and organizational skills
